We have worked with Pets at Home on a number of projects for over 10 Years. Being one of only a handful of contractors they use, we manage all kinds of projects from reactive maintenance and nationwide roll out schemes to complete refurbishments and brand new store fit outs.
The project in Widnes was one of the most complicated we had ever undertaken, with a good many obstacles to overcome to get it completed. It involved the installation of a new mezzanine into an existing trading store, which would ultimately be used as a Vets and groomers.
Whilst we now install mezzanines into Pets at Home stores as standard, this was the first and to date the only one requiring piled foundations. The work involved forming 16 No. piles inside the store and amenity block for the steelwork columns to sit on. The site area was an extremely tight squeeze and so to enable the piling rig to gain access, we removed and rebuilt a number of walls. Once the piles were in place, the mezzanine fit out was completed.
The project proved particularly difficult because the store had to trade for the duration of the works. After each night shift the working area was thoroughly cleaned and left fit for purpose and ready to trade at 9am next morning. We also constructed temporary welfare facilities in the rear yard to facilitate trading.
